Dolly shot and other perspectives

ibslaughton4

I've decided I want to portray the drama as the thing motivated by the MacGuffin, rather than the MacGuffin being the thing that motivates the drama. This is barely a difference, but I feel like shifts the focus onto the MacGuffin's experience rather than the characters' experience, almost personifying the MacGuffin.

Whilst doing this, I also want to continue to portray the MacGuffin and its nuances as accurately as possible, for example, the fact it is fictional and is dependent on a narrative. However, these aspects do not need to be taught to the viewer, and are only there to access if the piece were to be analysed by someone aware of the MacGuffin's properties. It doesn't need to be explained for the story to make sense, but shows the thorough understanding I have achieved through my research. A series of easter eggs, kind of.

PERSPECTIVE 1:

Dolly zoom, allowing more of the background to be revealed whilst keeping an equal focus on the MacGuffin. I have yet to decide what I would want to reveal if I was going to use this perspective.

PERSPECTIVE 2:

Hiding with the MacGuffin, we can get a better understanding of the MacGuffin's situation and perspective on the story.

PERSPECTIVE 3:

The camera now shows us what the MacGuffin would see if it had eyes. This fully immerses us in the MacGuffin's viewpoint. It also keeps the MacGuffin's identity a mystery, which doesn't stop it from acting as a MacGuffin. In the early stages of my research, through looking at Hitchcock's explanations of a MacGuffin and also the mysterious briefcase in Pulp Fiction, I learnt that a MacGuffin's identity doesn't need to be explicit in order for it to serve its purpose. This experiment is a potential way in which I can communicate this nuance.
