I used these tests as another opportunity to use art direction to help bring focus to my MacGuffins. I am pleased with the set achieved by shifting my sofa and hanging a less vibrant picture onto the wall, and also happy with my choice to swap my Dad's blue jeans to brown trousers (he kindly agreed to take part in this test). I was able to be more creative with colour and light in the photographs I took after.
FILM TESTS:
1) The slow pan from a wide shot to a close up brings the MacGuffin into focus.
2) This test shows the remote sitting on the intersection of the lowermost and rightmost third lines, in order to draw your eye to it.
3) Having the object on display (on a plinth or in a neutral background) while the audio of the search for the remote plays in the background.

I am considering adding speech to these three tests right at then end, in order to follow a more natural sequence of events instead of the character walking off screen. I could use sound design to create a more believable scene, for example the sound of a door opening and shutting at the beginning as the character enters, or the sound of a TV channel rumbling in the background that my Dad is trying to change off.
With my photography experiments, I tried creating a warm, cosy image with orange lighting. I also shone a subtle stream of light onto the remote to draw the viewers eye towards the object. These images would have to be shown in the context of the search for the remote in order for the remote to be a MacGuffin, whether that be by accompanying the images with the audio of the search or by having some language explaining the situation. I haven't yet tested these ideas.
To round of an evening of testing, I photographed my Dad after having "found" the remote, with the cool blue tones from a nature programme about polar bears creating a purplish hue when mixed with the orange-red of the lamplight.
